Kathleen Grady

Professor Grady has 80% research and 20% extension responsibilities in the area of oilseed crops. Current projects include a sunflower breeding program emphasizing germplasm and population development and improvement for traits such as increased seed yield and oil content, oil quality, and stress tolerance. She has released several improved flax varieties and sunflower germplasm lines.

Ms. Grady also conducts variety/hybrid performance trials on sunflower, flax, and canola and carries out agronomic research to increase knowledge and understanding of production practices that will optimize profitability for growers in South Dakota. She develops and delivers extension education programs and publications on oilseed crops. She is currently serving on the Sunflower Crop Germplasm Committee (part of the National Plant Germplasm System), the Northern Canola Council, and the National Sunflower Variety Review Board.
