Vance Owens

Dr. Owens' research interests are primarily in the area of forage crop quality, production, and management, specifically in relation to forages grown in South Dakota and the Northern Great Plains. Significant research is being conducted to improve alfalfa sustainability and profitability. Recently, he has become interested and involved in research dealing with production of biomass for energy, another way of adding value to forage crops. Dr Owens' interests also include the management and production of high quality silage. Dr. Owens currently teaches the lab associated with Forage Crop Production and Management (PS 313). He also serves as one of three advisors to the Agronomy and Conservation Club on campus. He is actively involved with several professional societies.
