Biology of Mosquitoes
in South Dakota

Mike Catangui
, Ph.D. -  Extension Entomologist

Mosquitoes, through the process of metamorphosis, transform into eggs, larvae (wrigglers), pupae (tumblers), and adult male or female mosquitoes.  The adult stage is terrestrial while the immature stages are aquatic.  Mosquitoes cannot multiply without water.
