Professor

Ph.D. University of Missouri 1978
M.S. University of Idaho 1974

Professor Hall serves as Extension Agronomist - Crops for the corn, soybean, and spring-seeded small grain production areas of South Dakota. His primary extension duties include such management practices as variety or hybrid selection, seeding rates, seeding dates, crop row spacing, and the general growth and development of these crops. He also serves as the project leader for the South Dakota Crop Performance Testing Program. This program tests several hundred crop varieties and experimental lines that are evaluated for potential release each year.  Generally, crop entries consist of soybean (40%), yellow dent corn (30%), spring and winter wheat (25%), and other small grains (5%). Soybean and corn entries consist mostly of glyphosate-resistant entries along with a few non-glyphosate resistant entries. Presently, he serves as the departments Extension Coordinator.  He has served as chair and vice-president of the North Central region University Crop Testing Activity (UCTA). The goal of this activity is to maintain or change (as needed) the standards and methods for the testing and reporting of crop performance information among agricultural colleges in the North Central region.
