Distinguished Professor Douglas Malo teaches Soils (PS213/213A-team taught, every semester), Soil Geography and Land Use (PS/GEOG 310/310A-alternate fall semesters), Soil Judging (PS321-team taught, every semester), Rural Real Estate Appraisal (AGEC/PS 373/373A- team taught, every fall semester), Integrated Management of Agricultural Resources (ABS 476-team taught, every fall semester), Integrated Management of Agricultural Resources (ABS 475-team taught, every spring semester), Advanced Soil Genesis (PS733-alternate spring semesters), and Field Studies in Pedology (PS732-alternate summers). His research is in the areas of soil genesis, land use, survey, and classification. Current research projects include: soil quality, soil genesis, and carbon sequestration; soil tillage and natural erosion impacts on soil genesis and classification; soil genesis and site-specific management (precision farming); and web-based soil information systems. He has a major responsibility in a Native American grant to improve natural resources education at tribal universities and colleges (cooperative project with ISU). Currently, he has an active role in the SDSU-Bolivia project to develop a small land-grant university for the Aymaran and Quetchua peoples in the Nor Yungas Region of Bolivia.
