Dr. Nleya is Project Leader, West River Agronomy Program. Her extension duties include the development and the dissemination of educational programs and publications for crops adapted to western South Dakota. She is the primary contact person for any issues related to winter wheat production.
Dr. Nleya's research focuses on development of cultural practices and cropping systems that will optimize yield of crops grown in western South Dakota. Current research activities include: best management practices for winter wheat and pulse crops; cropping sequences studies to determine the effects of pulse crops, when introduced as a fallow replacement in a winter wheat-fallow cropping system, on performance of the subsequent winter wheat and evaluation of a wide range of alternative crops for adaptation to growing conditions in western South Dakota. The long term aim is to develop diversified and sustainable cropping systems that include pulses, oilseeds and annual forages grown in rotation with winter wheat.
