Dr. Stein joined the faculty in 2004. He has a spilt appointment with a research program that focuses on the fungal diseases of importance to small grains production in South Dakota. The current research topics in his program include the epidemiology of Fusarium head blight, common root rot, and tan spot of wheat. Dr. Stein also has collaborative projects initiated with the small grains breeders at SDSU involving the screening of advanced breeding lines for resistance to stem and crown rust. He teams teaches three courses at SDSU: PS 223--Principles of Plant Pathology Laboratory, PS 450/550--Field Diagnosis of Plant Diseases, and PS714--Genetics of Disease Resistance and Host Pathogen Interactions. Dr. Stein is also active in the American Phytopathological Society and serves on numerous research and related committees.
