Dr. Langham's research program focuses on viral diseases affecting South Dakota crops. A major focus of her program includes a collaborative research effort with the Winter Wheat Breeding Program evaluating winter wheat cultivars and experimental lines for resistance and tolerance to wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV). This project has contributed to the recent release of three new winter wheat cultivars. A second focus includes research on bean pod mottle virus (BPMV) in soybean. Other disease agents, included in her research, are barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV), High Plains Disease, and viruses of other agronomic and horticultural crops. Dr. Langham's project also provides diagnostic support for viral diseases to the Plant Disease Clinic.
