Welcome to the "Adopt a Farm" website that provides educational resources about agriculture, remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The goals of this website are to:

1) Educate people living in urban and rural communities how spatial information can be used to to improve resource management decisions in agriculture and

2) Explain how these decisions affect people in urban and rural communities not actively involved agricultural production.

We will attempt to add value to the data by showing the human and biological side of agriculture production to the general public.

Use the buttons at the top of the page or click on a link below to use this website. The best place to start is reading the information on the "About This Website" WebPage.

About This Website: Information provided on this page explains how to use this website. Documents that can be downloaded or printed off in Adobe Acrobat here include:

(1) Maps and Tutorials Instructions: Instructions explain on how to use the Maps and Tutorials webpage.

(2) GIS Map Symbols Explanations: instructions on what the different map symbols mean on the map pages and how to use them.

(3) Message Board Instructions: Instructions on how to access the message board and post a message on the message board.

Go To Maps and Tutorials Webpage: This page allows the user to print off a Instruction/Question Page to be used with each tutorial. Your instructor may have already done this for you. Once you have the Instruction/Question Page printed off, select the Go To Map link to access the online map.

Go To Message Board: This webpage allows the user to email a question about agriculture management to a farmer or land manager. This is a secure website and the user will need a password to enter the site. The farmer will check the message board three times a week and answer any posted questions. The message board is monitored for content. If content entered by the user is inappropriate, the user will be barred from using the message board.

Partners & Funding: Other organizations involved with SDView project.

Links: Links to other Precision Agriculture web pages organized by topic. There are some excellent links to other website such as the Canada Center for Remote Sensing that have tutorials on how remote sensing works, what the data collected means and how the data is transformed into useful information.
