John is a graduate research assistant working on his masters degree in soil science with Dr. David Clay as his advisor. His graduate project entails the use of Carbon-13 discrimination to assess the effects of imposed stresses such as nitrogen deficiency, water deficiency and sunlight deficiency on corn grain yield and velvetleaf seed production as well as the overall growth of these two plants. He is also conducting research to determine the amount and sources of carbon dioxide that are evolved from soils in order to better understand root exudation, carbon budgets and soil respiration.
