Bittersweet Nightshade

Life cycle: Perennial

Leaves: Two distinct lobes at the base of the leaves. Usually dark green

Stems: Vine-like growth habit

Flowers: Bright purple flowers with yellow center

Roots: Fibrous

Comments: Often found in shaded areas or climbing on bushes. Produces bright red berries. Plants may be toxic.

Control

Cultural: Dig, pull, or cut plants growing in bushes as foliar herbicides will also damage the bushes

Foliar Herbicides: In grassy areas, products that contain 2,4-D and dicamba (Weed-B-Gone Max, Trimec, WeedStop, and others) or carfentrazone (QuickSilver)
