Black Medic

Life cycle: Annual, winter annual, or short-lived perennial legume

Leaves: Oval shaped leaves, alternating on stem

Stems: Usually grow flat on the ground and branch out, may ascend

Flowers: Pale yellow, tight-flower clusters

Roots: Taproot

Comments: Often found in areas of compacted soil

Control

Cultural: Fertilize lawn.

Foliar Herbicides: Products that contain 2,4-D and dicamba (Weed-B-Gone Max, Trimec, WeedStop, and others), carfentrazone (QuickSilver), triclopyr (Turflon), quinclorac (Drive), fluroxypyr (Spotlight). There is also a Weed-B-Gone product for clover, chickweeds, and oxalis species that contains triclopyr.

Soil Herbicides: Products that contain dithiopyr (Dimension Ultra)
