Bur Buttercup
Life cycle: Annual
Leaves: Grayish-green, broken into 3 or 6 long, slender sections.
Stems: Covered with matted, intertwined hairs.
Flowers: Small, prickly burs
Roots: Fibrous
Comments: Difficult weed to control because it reaches maturity very early in the spring.
Control
Foliar Herbicides: Metsulfuron (Manor) is the only labeled product for control in turf. Products that contain 2,4-D and dicamba (Weed-B-Gone Max, Trimec, WeedStop, and others) or triclopyr (Turflon) may be effective if applied prior to maturity.
Soil Herbicides: Isoxaben (Gallery or Portrait) has provided control of other Ranunculus species in previous research, but these products may not be labeled for control of bur buttercup (Ranunculus testiculatus).
