Chickweed

Life cycle: Annual

Leaves: Smooth oval opposite leaves.

Stems: Grow along ground or ascend, and spread out.

Flowers: Small star-like flowers.

Roots: Shallow roots.

Comments: Often found in shaded areas among shrubs and in border plantings.

Control

Cultural: Pull or mulch in border plantings.

Foliar Herbicides: Products that contain 2,4-D and dicamba (Weed-B-Gone Max, Trimec, WeedStop, and others), triclopyr (Turflon), and metsulfuron (Manor). There is also a Weed-B-Gone product for clover, chickweeds, and oxalis species that contains triclopyr.

Soil Herbicides: Products that contain pendimethalin (Pendulum) or dithiopyr (Dimension Ultra). For landscapes, may use isoxaben (Gallery or Portrait).
