Common Blue Violet

Life cycle: Annual or short-lived perennial

Leaves: Spade-shaped

Stems: Short, often only petioles attached to leaves

Flowers: Range from bluish-purple to white depending on the species

Roots: Can branch or have a taproot

Comments: Grows in shade and partial sun

Control

Foliar Herbicides: Triclopyr (Turflon) most effective. There is a Weed-B-Gone product for clover, chickweeds, and oxalis species that contains triclopyr. Products that contain 2,4-D and dicamba (Weed-B-Gone Max, Trimec, WeedStop, and others) may provide suppression or control with repeated applications.
