Motherwort

Life cycle: Perennial

Leaves: Egg-shaped leaves with jagged edges. Lower leaves have 3 to 5 lobes.

Stems: Square stem as this species is in the mint family. Upright, smooth stems. Usually unbranched or ascending branches.

Flowers: Clusters of small pink to white flowers frequently containing dark purple specks. Flower clusters often on opposite sides of the stem near leaf petioles.

Roots: Horizontal, short, underground roots.

Comments: Often found in tall grass near trees (partially shaded environment).

Control

Cultural: Mowing.

Foliar Herbicides: Products that contain 2,4-D and dicamba (Weed-B-Gone Max, Trimec, WeedStop, and others), triclopyr (Turflon), or clopyralid (Confront).
