Prostrate Knotweed

Life cycle: Annual

Leaves: Small bluish-green leaves.

Stems: Wiry stem. Grows flat.

Flowers: Small clusters of pink-white flowers.

Roots: Taproot

Comments: Germinates very early in high traffic areas. Papery sheath covers knot-like nodes.

Control

Cultural: Aerate compacted soils

Foliar Herbicides: Products that contain 2,4-D and dicamba (Weed-B-Gone Max, Trimec, WeedStop, and others), triclopyr (Turflon), carfentrazone (QuickSilver), metsulfuron (Manor), and fluroxypyr (Spotlight).

Soil Herbicides: Many soil applied herbicides for crabgrass, such as pendimethalin (Pendulum) or dithiopyr (Dimension Ultra). For landscapes, may use isoxaben (Gallery or Portrait).
